Greenlight Coverage vs. Auteur: Which Is Better for Screenwriters?

Adam P. · October 4, 2026 · 4 min read

If you searched "Greenlight Coverage," you're shopping for AI script coverage and trying to figure out where to spend your money. I'm a working screenwriter and one of the people behind Auteur, so yes, I have a horse in this race. I'm still going to stick to facts, and everything I say about Greenlight comes straight from Greenlight's own website.

Here's the short version. Auteur is faster, you only pay for the reads you actually use, you can buy a single read, and the coverage is built by people who've been writing it professionally for over a decade.

The side-by-side

Greenlight details checked October 4, 2026, on glcoverage.com and glcoverage.com/pricing.

You can't buy one read from Greenlight

This is the one that surprises people. If you have one script and you want one professional read on it, Greenlight doesn't sell that. Your options are a subscription starting at $75 a month, or a pack of three scripts for $209, which works out to about $70 a read and assumes you've got two more drafts lined up.

Most writers don't work like that. You've got the script. You've been living inside it for a year. You want a read before it goes to the manager or the contest, and then you want to go do the rewrite. With Auteur, that's $39, once. If you want a second read on the rewrite, that's $49 when the rewrite is actually done, not on the first of the month.

Stop paying for reads you don't use

Subscriptions are built for the company, not the writer. Greenlight's Basic plan bills $75 every month for up to two scripts, and the annual plans lock you in for a year. If you're between drafts, or blocked, or living your life, the charge still hits.

Auteur doesn't have a plan to pick or a renewal to remember. You pay when you have pages. That's it.

Auteur is faster

Greenlight's delivery time depends on what you pay. Their pricing page lists two hours on the 3-script pack, an hour on Basic, 30 minutes on Essential, and under 15 minutes only on the $345-a-month Pro plan.

Auteur coverage comes back in about ten minutes, for everyone, at every price. You don't have to buy the expensive plan to get the fast read.

The notes are better

Speed doesn't mean much if the notes are generic, and this is where we're proudest.

Auteur was built by working screenwriters who've spent more than a decade on both sides of the desk, writing coverage for production companies, studios and management companies on the industry side, and for coverage services on the writer side. We know what an exec needs from a report, and we know what a writer needs to actually fix the script. Auteur is trained on that experience.

So you get both levels of notes a good reader gives you. The macro notes: what the script is really about, whether the structure is holding, where the protagonist's arc goes soft, whether the concept is marketable. And the micro notes, tied to specific pages and moments. Here's one from our Whiplash coverage:

On page 3, the opening scene with Fletcher and Andrew in the practice room is a fantastic hook, but the "woopsy-daisy, forgot my coat" moment is such a perfect character beat that I wonder if you're burning it too early. It's the kind of line that could echo later. Consider whether Fletcher could revisit that exact phrase or gesture at a later moment when the power dynamic has shifted, giving it a plant-and-payoff structure rather than a one-off gag.

That's what a professional read looks like. Not "the opening is good," but this page, this line, and a specific way to make it pay off later. Every report also includes a logline, an intro, a 20-category ratings grid, a recommendation and next steps, so you know what to fix first.

Greenlight's site doesn't say who built their product or who trained it.

Rewrites that remember

When you finish the next draft, Auteur's Rewrite Coverage reads it against the notes from your earlier drafts and tells you what improved, what didn't, and what's new. It's the difference between a second opinion and a reader who remembers your script.

The bottom line

If you want one read on your script, a fast turnaround without paying for a premium tier, and notes from people who've been doing this professionally for over a decade, Auteur is built for you.

Don't take my word for it. Read the full Whiplash or Pulp Fiction coverage first, no upload needed. If you're new to coverage altogether, start with what script coverage is. And when you're ready, send us your script and you'll have coverage back in about ten minutes.
